What to visit between Santiago and San Antonio Cruise Port?

(Santiago Travel Tips) – At ISOUTHAMERICA we are always working to supply the best possible experience for our customers while traveling around South America. We had identified a common situation, when travelers have only some hours to enjoy in Chile, and is not easy to decide how to take the best of it. Based on our experience, we had prepared some travel tips.

Every year we receive the same question from international travelers. My Cruise will dock in San Antonio Port (Chile) and my flight arrives/departs at Santiago SCL Airport. Are there travel attractions on the way? What’s the best plan to take the best of my hours in Chile?

Visiting Valparaiso or Viña del Mar?

Probably not the best option. San Antonio Cruise Port is located at a 115 KM distance from Santiago City. This will take around one hour and 45 minutes drive. But unfortunately neither Valparaiso or Viña del Mar are on the way. As you can see on the following map, a big diversion is necessary to visit this Cities. (It will add one hour and a half on route, and it will increase transfers and tours costs).

What are the best alternatives?

Here, at ISOUTHAMERICA we usually suggest to our customers the following sightseeing options.

Option 1: Stop at Pomaire Village

Pomaire, authentic handicraft/pottery town

Pomaire is a small town about on the way between Santiago City and San Antonio. The two main streets are filled with tons of pottery (greda) and souvenir shops, which the town is known for, and restaurants. It’s a nice place to stop, wander around, pick up some souvenirs and grab lunch. Quality varies, so if you see a style of cookware or decorative piece that you like, shop around for your best options. There are lots of different types of pottery, from pure decoration to hard-core cookware. If you’ve been eating in local restaurants in Chile, you may have already eaten out of some.

Option 2: Visit to Vineyard + Wine Tasting

The traditional Concha y Toro and Viña Undurraga vineyards are located in Maipo Valley. They are excellent alternatives to take the best of for a journey between Santiago City and San Antonio Cruise Port. Both facilities are internationally recognized for the quality of their wines. Visiting one of these Vineyards and enjoying a Wine Tasting are top-rated activities and, at the same time, unforgettable experiences.
